Winterfest Boat Parade rocked 2009

Known as the “The World’s Most Watched Boat Parade”, the Winterfest Boat Parade in Ft. Lauderdale is one of those events that every boater (and would-be boater) should appreciate in person sometime in their lifetime. Over a million people enjoyed the show this year as the fleet of decorated boats converted the Ft. Lauderdale waterways into an illuminated aquatic spectacle for its 38th anniversary. The concept started back in the 60s when enthusiastic boaters dressed their boats with holiday lights & decoration, blasted music, and cruised up and down the Intercostal Waterways with friends and family. The idea caught on and by 1971 became an organized parade. After only a decade the Parade became so successful that a non-for profit organization was created (Winterfest inc.) to organize the free parade and all the festivities surrounding it.
Yacht Help Desk went behind the scenes to get you an exclusive look at what it really takes to be part of this parade. Below is an interview we did with Scott & Anita McIlvaine consecutive parade winners since 2004. Enjoy the Video:
